Happy customers never leave reviews. The unhappy ones always do.

Review tools automatically text and email customers after a job and ask for a Google review. Some now use AI to write your review replies too. More reviews help you show up on Google and in AI search answers.
π¨π¦ In Canada
Review requests sent by text or email to Canadian customers can fall under Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). Generally, a customer you did a job for gives implied consent for 2 years after the job. Keep a record of the job date, identify your business, and include a way to unsubscribe. This isn't legal advice, so check the CRTC's CASL guidance if you're unsure.
πΊπΈ In the US
In the US, texting customers is covered by the TCPA. Get permission to text (a checkbox on your booking form or invoice works) and honour "STOP" replies. Good review tools handle opt-outs for you.

Common questions
How do I get more Google reviews for my contracting business?
Ask every customer right after the job, by text, with a direct link. Review tools like NiceJob automate this so it happens every time without you remembering.
Do reviews affect whether ChatGPT recommends my business?
AI assistants that search the web lean on the same signals as Google, such as reviews, a complete business profile, and clear service pages. Steady recent reviews help on both.
